Elder monk and junior monk embarked on their journey to a far away temple. After a few days of walking, they came to this river, with its water knee-deep.
A beautiful lady was sitting beside the river and upon seeing the monks, she pleaded,”Would any of you please help me across the river?”
Without hesitation, elder monk lifted the beautiful lady and started to cross the river. Junior monk followed them.
Once they reached the other side, elder monk let the beautiful lady down and they both went their own ways.
That evening, junior monk couldn’t take it anymore. He asked elder monk,”we were not suppose to touch any female. How could you carry the beautiful lady across the river today?”
The elder monk replied,”I have already let the lady down many hours ago, why are you still carrying her?”
This is one of my favourite story. Sometimes, circumstances require us to take difficult actions. But more importantly, we need to ask ourselves whether our conscious is clear.
